Converted a Truck
Charged with converting a motor truck on Monday, Fred Howard Spiers, single, mill hand, Whakatane, was convicted and placed on probation for 12 months by Mr E. L. Walton, S.M., in the Whakatane Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
Clearing Sale Despite very sticky weather exceedingly good prices of up to £32 were realised for cows and heifers at a clearing sale of Mr W. Black, Kopuriki, Galatea, last week. It is believed that Mr Black intends to take up station cattle farming in the same area.
Dairy Companies Meet Delegates of dairy companies from Opotiki to. Katikati attended a -meeting of the East Coast Dairy Association at Whakatane yesterday when problems of the dairy industry were discussed.
In The Hunt
When winners of shooting trophies for Dominion-Wide contests were announced at the Legion of Frontiersmen’s conference on Saturday, Whakatane, though not in a major place, was well “in the hunt” for the Pioneer trophy, coming fifth for the Dominion.
Wharf Sealing The area between the wharf sheds and the sealed portion of the roadway has been sealed at a contract price of 6/1 a yard, the consulting engineer, Mr C. H. Brebner, reported to the monthly meeting of the Whakatane Harbour Board. The contractor, who did the work is to watch it until October.
Judgment Summon Orders The following judgment summons orders were granted by Mr E. L. Walton, S.M., in the Whakatane Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday: A. Tawhi to pay James W. Goodhew Ltd., £39 13s 2d, costs £1 11s 6d; Wi Hororiri to pay James W. Goodhew Ltd., £4l 10s Bd, costs £1 11s 6d; H. Twist to pay N. C. Benson £7 14s 3d, costs 15s 6d.
Motor Cyclists For Tauranga On Sunday some members of the Bay of Plenty Motor Cycle Club will visit Tauranga to take part in the first meeting organised by the newly-formed Tauranga Club. Probable members of the local team will be Bob Woods (A.J.S.), A. Teasdale (Triumph), Frank Cameron (Norton) and Cec Goodwin. Both Marsh Brothers are preparing machines for the coming track season, but may turn out.
