Thornton-Matata Pony Club Rally

The first rally of the ThorntonMatata Pony Club was held in Magee’s paddock Thornton, on Sundaj r . Unfavourable weather marred the day, but the enthusiasm of the young riders was not dampened. The number of supporters and spectators made it very encouraging for the future success of the club. Amongst those present were Mr D. Blomfield and Mrs R. Cobbe of the Whakatane District Club.

Mr Blomfield- gave a short talk and invited four members to take part in the parade at the coming show at Whakatane on June 25. The rally commenced with morning tea, after which Mr Heard gave, the children a talk on the care of their ponies. Instruction followed till lunch was served by ladies of the committee. Rain brought the rally to an early close, but all *who attended look forward with keen interest to the next rally on June 19. Instructors were Mis Bennell, Mr Heard, Mr Spiers and Mr Magee. Pupils present: Ann Hyland, Betty Magee, Ethel Heard, Erica Nuemann, 'N. Nuemann, Colin Henry, Kevin Burt, George Adams, Bert Adams, Graham Magee, Laurence Magee, Donald Morgan, Gavin Mexted, lan Robb, Garry Lees.
