FOUR. GAMES ON NEW . GROUNDS Competitions of the Whakatane Rugby Sub-dJnion go in to the second round tomorrow when five matches will be played at Whakatane oi the new grounds. A new innovation to the Saturday games are the programmes which are being printed each week by the United Club. These will be of considerable assistance to spectators in picking up the players while the games are in progress. It is suggested that all clubs have their teams selected early in the week so that they may be printed correctly. Tomorrow’s games:—

Senior: Poroporo v Wairaka No. 1 ground, 2.45 p.m.; Taneatua v Paroa No. 2 ground, 2.45 p.m.; United v Paengaroa (friendly game) No. 2 ground, 1.30 p.m.

Juniors: Taneatua v Paroa No. 1, 3.30 p.m.; United v Paengaroa (friendly game) old ground, 1.30 p.m.

Rangitaiki The Rangitaiki competitions will carry on tomorrow. For the first time in many years the Sub-Union now has a third grade competition and if it becomes established it bodes well for the future of Rangitaiki senior football. The draw:—

Seniors: Edgecumbe v Thornton at Edgecumbe, 2 p.m., referee T. Waldergrave; Matata v Te Teko at Matata, 2.30 p.m., J. Hyland. -

Juniors: Te Teko v Otakiri at Te Teko, 1 p.m., A. Heagh; Matata v Edgecumbe at Matata, 1 p.m., A. Magee. ■Third grade: Wanderers v Rovers at Edgecumbe, 12.30 p.m., B. Magee.

WHAKATANE v TAXJRANGA The next representative game for Whakatane will be against Tauranga at Tauranga on June 18 when the senior and junior teams will travel. These teams will be selected this week-end and are to be announced early next week. The club competitions will not be interrupted on that day but will carry on as usual. TEAMS FOR TOMORROW United seniors to play Paengaroa tomorrow. Players to assemble at A. and P. shed at 1 p.m.: Malaquin, Rutherford, Kahui, Olsen, Hunt, Loney, De Lacey, Hudson, Goodwin, Adams, Ruffles, Parsons, Mundy, Mickell, McMillan, Stewart, Goodall, Rolfe, Oborn, Dines, Kilson, Koea, McCormick. United juniors to play Paengaroa at the Domain: Bridgers, Kain, Burt, A. Taylor, J. Taylor, B. Taylor, Pritchard, Needham, Sandham, Carling, Goodall, Shapley, Butler, Littlejohn, Chadwick, Goodwin, Seebeck, Stewart, Edmondson, Brown, Coker, Comiskey, Dockray. AS THE TEAMS STAND As the teams stand m the senior rugby competition at ' Whakatane Wairaka with 10 points has an impressive lead over Taneatua, which is second with seven points. Next comes Poroporo with five and then Paroa and United equal with four points each. At this stage Wairaka are in a very strong position and will be hard to catch. In the junior United and Paroa are lying equal in the lead with Taneatua in third place. WIN FOR RANGITAIKI B Playing with more snap and better handling among the backs Rangitaiki B defeated Whakatane B by 5 (converted try) to 3 (penalty gaol) in a rather solid game on Monday. Play was hard and tight with neither backs having many runs. For Rangitaiki Beazley, Ihia, Marks and Tukiwaho played soundly and worked hard. For Whakatane Rutherford, Harawira, G. Stewart, Goodall and Ruffles were prominent.

WHAKATANE JUNIORS WIN . Playing with more cohesion Whakatane junior s 6 (two unconverted tries) swept home over Rangitaiki 3 (unconverted try) in a fast and open match on Monday. The ball was well aired by both sides the teams opening up play at every opportunity. Seebeck, Dockray, Chadwick and Butler went hard throughout for Whakatane while Xhaia, Pryor, Eivers and Hawthorne showed up among the Rangitaiki side.
