High River Waters Concern Board

Concern at the way the water had overflowed the banks of the Whakatane River during the recent slight flooding and high tides was expressed by Mr H. G. Warren, at the monthly meeting of the Whakatane Harbour Board. He considered that in future groynes and stopbanks should be erected higher as it appeared that more water was now coming down the river. The chairman, Mr W. R. Boon, said that he thought the whole trouble was at the Heads. The water in the river seemed unable to get away quickly because' of a sandspit at the entrance holding it back. It was decided that the question be left with Mr Boon to discuss with the consulting engineer, Mr C. H. Brebner.
