A total fall of 8.25 inches of rain was recorded on the Rangitaiki Plains during last month, the heaviest fall being 3.22 inches on May. 8 So far this year 26.01 inches ©f rain has been recorded which is. just about the same for the average of the corresponding first five months over the past 10 years, which is 22.36 inches. The average fall for May over the last 10 years is 5.71 inches. Few Limit Bags “Duck shooting so far this season has been poor. Although there were plenty of birds on the lagoons and lakes before the opening day, they were scared by the first few shots and until the recent change of weather, conditions have been unsuitable,” said Mr S. A. McNamara, .- Conservator of Wild Life. “There / have been more limit bags and better shooting in the Bay of Plenty area,” he added. Parking Cars For Rugby A large crowd is expected to attend the .representative Rugby match when'' the new field will be officially opened on Monday. The probable big influx of cars has caused some headaches over parking. Cars on Monday will be parked on the old football fields at the main and in side streets near the\ Domain but no cars will be to park in Domain Road, No cars will be admitted to the new field. Archery Clubs Recently a strong archery -club was formed at 'Whakatane while last year a similar club was formed at Opotiki. Now steps are being taken to form a club at Tauranga and from present indications it appears that the move will be successful. Should a strong Tauranga club be formed it will be of benefit to Whakatane and Opotiki in provid- ‘ ing good competition with an eventual rise in the standard of the sport. If might be possible in time to form , a Bay of Plenty Archery Association to control the sport in this area.
