PRECOCIOUS YOUNGSTER IN RAZOR FIGHT
When “Kathleen Duffy, aged 20,” appeared on remand at Marlborough Street, London, charged with shoplifting at three West End stores, Woman-Detective Kelly stated that “Duffy” was not her name and that her real age was 14. The girl had pleaded guilty, with Lilian May Morey, aged 20, of Gauden Road, Clapham, who was jointly accused. Detective Kelly said the girls had told her they were living with two men they had met at a restaurant. Asked by the magistrate, Mr Paul Bennett, V.C., why “Duffy” had several plaster patches on her face, Detective Kelly replied: “She says she was slashed with a razor by another girl during an argument over a man.”
“Duffy” was sent to a juvenile court to be dealt with; Morey, who said she hoped to marry and settle down, was placed on probation and sent to a hostel.
