Waimana-Nukuhou W.I. Garden Circle
The monthly meeting of the Wains ana-Nukuhou Women’s Institute Gardening Circle was held at Mrs Potter’s home, Mrs M. King presiding.
Mrs Hewitt read an interesting item on work in the garden during autumn. The disbudding of chrysanthemums was well discussed. It was stressed that the way to have a really good lawn was to keep it v/eeded. An amusing competition, guessing drawings done by members, representing songs was arranged by Mrs Potter. Mrs G. Mitchell and Mrs R. White tied for first place. The day’s competitions were judged by Mrs Stevenson and the results were:—
Vase of flowers or berries, arranged in 5 minutes: Mrs J. Mitchell 1, Mrs Hewitt 2, Mrs G. Mitchell 3. Best flower: Mrs M. King 1, Mrs Hewitt 2, Mrs Potter 3. Best vegetable: Mrs Hewitt 1, Mrs Whiteman 2, iMrs J. Mitchell 3. After afternoon tea, members viewed the most beautifully kept gardens, which had plenty of vegetables ready for winter use and a bright array of autumn flowers. Mrs King thanked Mrs Potter for the use of her home and the pleasant afternoon. She also thanked the hostesses.
