ENGLISH PEOPLE STILL BUYING HORSE MEAT
Winchester butchers have recently refused 26 quarters of New Zealand boneless beef, equal to a ration for 5,200 people, because their buybig committee considered the meat below standard. The same day that was announced in a press message from London, an Ohope resident got a letter from an English friend, who says she cannot get enough for the dog to eat, as people are buying horse meat for themselves.
She said all they were allowed was Sd worth of fresh meat and 2d worth of corned beef per week per ration book, and the ration of fresh meat was going down to 6d worth. That means many can never have a joint of meat and have to rely on stews and steaks.
No wonder, then, that the public over there demand meat of good quality,
