WINTER SHOW PLANS ARE NOW WELL AHEAD
Down the ages men found that public gatherings were the only satisfactory media by which they could exchange ideas and learn of new methods to improve their means of livelihood. The Whakatane Winter Show is the direct result of the experiences and ideas that have come with the years, and this Show will enlarge the knowledge and breadth of vision of all who visit it from June 22 to the 25.
Yesterday Mr Mitchell, of Papatoetoe, came into the Winter Show Buildings with the excellent suggestion that Winter Shows should arrange a circuit so that poultrymen could send their exhibits from one Show to the next without returning home. This was a very sensible and businesslike idea and will no doubt appeal to the able committee of the local Poultry Club. The New Zealand Women’s Institutes are having a tremendous influence on the home life of our country districts and towns, and as they grow in strength and numbers the day will come when their voice will be a dominant factor in our public life. The Institutes are helping the Winter Show in every possible way and the Show Executive appreciates to the full the assistance given by members. The parents of two boys who are at a boarding school are having some difficulty in getting them back to school as the boys have heard of the “Wall of Death” and “The Monkey Speedway” that are coming to' the Show, and they naturally prefer side shows to school Mr Carian the Secretary of the New Zealand Showmen’s Guild, is in town andhas promised the Show Executive an outstanding collection of wild, weird and strange exhibits, that would keep even a possible Rhodes Scholar from his studies. The Show Schedules are now being distributed and a ring on phone 169 A at night will bring a schedule at once.
There must be a wealth of old photographs, newspaper items and relics of the pioneer days of the Coast stored away in many homes and a ring to the Secretary would result in a personal visit as these items would help to make an exhibit of absorbing interest to young and old.
