FARMERS SUGGEST MODIFICATION OF FORTY HOUR WEEK

Extreme dissatisfaction with the present -supplies of fertilisers, cement, iron piping and other such commodities was voiced by several delegates at last week’s conference of Bay of Plenty Federated Farmers at Whakatane. It was felt that despite all the efforts the Federation had made little improvement had so far been gained.

After some discussion it was decided to forward the following remit to the Dominion office of Federated Farmers:—

“This conference requests the Dominion Council to take immediate steps to give full publicity to the vacillating and distributionist policy carried out by the Government in its efforts to overcome the vital shortages in cement, piping, etc., and the delay in the delivery of adequate supplies of manure. Nothing less than the most extreme pressure and publicity is required as these matters are vital in the farmers’ efforts now being made to increase production to a maximum level. If it is in the national economic interest that the 40 hour week should be modified to overcome shortages then the Federation should give full publicity to its opinion.”
