£5,806 To Be Spent Improving Roads In Whakatane Borough
Road maintenance and improvement works to cost £5,800 are prqvided for in this year’s Whakatane Borough estimates, and will include a substantial amount of sealing and a number of new concrete footpaths. Following is the list of works provided for:—
Maintenance of streets, bridges, footpaths etc., general maintenance, drainage, street cleaning etc., £3500. New works: Hospital Road, J share of £1540, £385; Paterson’s Drain, l-Si'd of £360, £120; Whakatane Wharf, sealing in front of sheds, £6O; Wainui Te Whara, l-3rd engineer’s fee—survey, £33; Wha-' katane Domain, forming and metalling road, £65; Louvain Street, concrete path, north side, £120; Public Road, Paterson’s subdivision—part formation and metalling, £300; Wainui Te Whara, protection of road, £200; Commerce Street, patch footpath, Domain Road to Strand, £6O; Landing Road, seal-primer and one coat seal, £198; James Street, widen 27 chains to 18’ width, £6O and metal for sealing £330; Seaview Road, widen carriageway to 16’, £SO and metal 28 chains for sealing, £3lO. Works not provided for in the estimates, but which might have to be tackled this year, are the Wairere stream culvert, of the cost of which the Council’s share is to be £2,438; •flood control along the courses of the Wairere, Waiewe and Wainui Te Whara streams (Council’s share approximately £5,000); processing and renewal of watermains at an estimated £3,000, and extensions to watermains.
