Farewell Afternoon Held At Thornton

A social afternoon in honour of Mrs and Miss Schneller, who are leaving the district soon was held at the monthly meeting of the Thornton Women’s Institute, presided over by the president, Mrs D. Branch. Both guests were presented with gifts from W.I. members. Several competitions were held and a solo was presented by Mrs M Tooke, accompanied by Mrs McDonald.

Mrs Robb is to pack this month’s parcel to the branch’s overseas link. Hostesses were Mesdames Heikell, Hefferman and Lee.

Competition results: Best vegetable: Mrs Robb 1, Mrs Sheat 8. Best flower: Mrs Jones 1, Mrs Paton 2. Posy: Mrs Robb 1. Ginger nuts: Mrs Checkley 1, Mrs Heikell 2. Jug cover: Mrs Jones 1, Mrs Robb 2. A competition was won by Mrs Fisher.
