Executive Meeting Of W.I. Federation
The first meeting for the year of the newly-formed executive of the Eastern Bay of Plenty Federation of Women’s Institutes was held in the Borough Council Chambers, Whakatane. Mrs McCallion presided and welcomed new members. Election of officers: Correspondence secretary, Mrs Gardner; minutes secretary, Mrs Hewitt; vicepresidents, Mrs Stewart and Mrs Hollard; press correspondent, Mrs Grey; home and country correspondent, Mrs Carr; treasurer, Mrs Stewart; trustees, Mrs Stewart and Mrs Gardner; hostess, Miss Lambert; V.O’s, Mesdames Withy Senr., Caverhill, Wylde, Stewart, Brown, R. Withy. (Mrs Armstrong to be asked to act as organiser for music circles and Mrs Grey to be asked to convene a meeting of the co-ordin-ating committee); drama convener, Mrs Mayo.
It was decided to hold the annual Drama Festival at Taneatua on July--19 and 20. A Drama meeting will be held in the Borough Council Chambers on June 1.
Mrs Withy presented a report on the Eisteddfod held recently at Edgecumbe. The executive decided to keep as their objective this year the raising of funds for the Headquarter’s Building Fund. Mrs Stewart spoke on the court for the forthcoming winter show and articles for the court were arranged.
