Over 10,000 State Houses Allocated To Ex-Servicemen

During March a further 298 State housing tenancies were allocated under the system whereby at least half of all newly vacant or newly built State rental houses and flats go to ex-servicemen. This brought the total number so allocated until the end of that month to 10,256. Rehabilitation Housing Committees in each centre make the allocations on a basis of relative urgency.

Allocations to ex-servicemen m the various districts are given below, those for March being shown in parentheses:— Auckland-North Auckland 2983 (84), Waikato-Bay of Plenty 824 (31), Hawkes Bay-Poverty Bay 503 (36), Taranaki 303 (7), Wellington Province 3463 (63), Nelson, Marlborough, Westland 275 ((9), Canterbury Province 1147 (55), Otago Province 541 (8), Southland 217 (5).
