CHILD CRIPPLES BENEFIT FROM SOCIETY’S WORK
“It gives me very great pleasure to be able to report that the past 12 months have been marked by o steady increase in work to the great benefit of the Crippled Children and hence to the Society. It would be impossible in this brief report to give a detailed account of all work done,” wrote Dr E. T. Dawson in his annual presidential report presented to the annual' meeting of the Crippled Children’s Society at Whakatane. “Regular bi-monthly committee meetings have been held, and an indication of the growing interest has been the response from the public and schools in our area. “Our thanks are extended to Mr Chapman (Kerridge-Odeon Theatres) and through him to the Young New Zealanders Club whose efforts and interest in the Crippled Children have meant so much and added greatly to our finances, Annual Appeal
“We take again this opportunity of thanking all those who helped in the collection, and the people of Whakatane and outlying areas for their generous help, and to the Borough Council for granting the Street Appeal. I would also like to mention the school teachers, pupils, and district nurses for their great interest and work done regarding the envelope system. Our annual collection this year amounted to £292, a very worthy effort, being an increase on £Bl on last year’s amount.
“Total number of cases in our area is 85, and during the year 30 new cases were enrolled. There are four cases waiting for beds in the Middlemore Hospital. Children presented at Specialists Clinics numbered 36 plus four. “The work of our supervisor is much appreciated by our committee for which we offer our grateful thanks. In conclusion 1 would like to thank the members of my committee for their assistance and help during the past year.”
Dr Dawson was re-elected as president, and the whole of last year’s executive was re-elected en bloc. The meeting was poorly attended.
