Rare Birds Of a clutch of half-grown pheasants recently observed at Nukuhou North by Mr A. Eagle, two were white. A white pheasant must be~ a W rather a rare bird. w * Immigrant Nurses Three immigrant nurses have been allocated to the Whakatane District Hospital it was stated at a meeting of the Bay of Plenty Hospital Board. They include one sister and two nurse trainees who will arrive in the next batch of immigrants to New Zealand this month. Kill Any Vermin An appeal for all sportsmen during the coming shooting season to kill as much vermin as possible such as shags, hawkes, stoats, weazels and hedgehogs, was made by Mr K. E. Francis, ranger at Whakatane, to the Beacon yesterday. On each of these the Government paid a bounty and each one destroyed helped in the conservation of game. Temporary repairs were made soon after and permanent repairs were completed by Wednesday night. Snow ! Snow-clad Tarawera presented a beautiful sight from certain points on the Rangitaiki Plains yesterday morning, the glistening cloak coming well down the mountainside. Starting off with one or two the number has increased to such an extent that they now almost demand a column alone. .One sportsman remarked yesterday after read- 1 ing them that he did not see any w reason in holding a shooting season jjj as"'there did not seem to be any place where one could go shooting. On Buying Beer

Again today Waikato Breweries Ltd. draw attention to the appointment of the Bay of Plenty Wine Co. as booking agents for this district. Mr S. G. Hirst, already besieged with orders, points out that there are certain regulations to be strictly observed. An agent cannot carry stock. He merely arranges delivery on behalf bf the Brewery, whose terms are cash with order, or C.O.D. Delivery is arranged F.0.R., Hamilton, if required, or otherwise as instructed. No liquor may be delivered after 6 p.m., and in no less than 2 gallon lots. Special rates are available to clubs for bona fide club functions, and draught beer may be ordered in 2 or 3 gallon jars.—P.B.A.
