Whirlwind!

Coming in from the sea at about 4.30 p.m. on Monday a whirlwind swept across the park area at the Heads, Whakatane, uprooted three trees and then disintegrated on the front garden of the late Mr J. Creeke. Whitish in colour and shaped like an ice cream cone the base of the whirlwind was about 30 feet across. It spun across the sea from the direction of Whale Island and the damage it could have caused was illustrated by two trees, which it lifted out cleanly by the roots. Fortunately it broke up soon after.
