Funeral Of Late Mr H. W. Ward

Over 100 cars carried the large crowd of mourners to the graveside to pay their respects to the memory of the late Mr H. W. Ward on Saturday. Representatives of all the organisations with which he had been associated, including the Justices of the Peace Association, of which he was a member, were present. Rev J. H. Starnes conducted the service at the Church and at the grave, members of the Rangitaiki Plains Dairy Co. Fire Brigade, the Whakatane Fire Brigade and the Legion of Frontiersmen forming a uniformed guard of honour. As a final tribute, Fire Brigadesmen filed past the grave to drop in green sprigs in token of remembrance, and members of the Legion marched up to give a last salute. Pall bearers were: Mr S. Spence (Dairy Co. Directors and shareholders), Mr R. C. Blair (management and office staff), Mr P. Gillam (Legion of Frontiersmen and Dairy Co. drivers), Mr J. B. Spiers (Dairy Co. garage and smithy staff), Supt. F. Villis (R.P.D. Co. Fire Brigade) and Deputy-Supt. B. Norman (Whakatane Fire Brigade).
