The Tamarack Tree

(By Howard Breslin)

This novel is set in Vermont, during the Presidential Election in 1840. A great party Convention was held on Stratton Mountain during July of that year and the novelist tries to show how that three-day gathering affected the lives of the people living in the nearby village of Stratton.

The characters are well drawn and the book contains many touches of New England humour. Withal The Tamarack Tree is a well knit and quietly enjoyable novel.
