Whakatane W.l.'s Monthly Meeting
Principal speaker at the Whakatane Women’s Institute’s monthly meeting on Tuesday was Mrs A. W. Winstone, who gave an address (separately summarised elsewhere in this issue) on Red Cross work. She was warmly thanked for an .n----teresting and informative talk. The report of the Council meeting held in Opotiki was presented by Mrs Ker. The balance sheet and report of the Building Fund were given, followed by reports from the drama, gardening and arts and crafts circles.
Mrs Sutcliffe spoke on “Home and Country,” asking more members to subscribe to it. The link letter from Hillingtaourne was read, and the collection, a tin of fat for the Link, was very well responded to.
“Golden Thread” this month was given by Mrs K. Stewart, Glasgow, and places of interest in Glasgow. Mrs Lysaght gave a demonstration on the making of snuggle rugs out of fleece. There were two new members. Two solos by Mrs Davie “For You Alone” and “I’m Longing for the Spring” were very much appreciated.
The sketch presented by Mesdames Teasdale and Rugg, “Char Ladies’ Chat,” caused many laughs and much enjoyment. A most enjoyable afternoon to a was served by the hostesses, Mesdames Cairns, Canning, Cantrell, Carling, Carter, Cleary, Cleaver and Comer.
