PICNIC TOURNAMENT HELD AT WHAKATANE With ideal weather and the greens in good condition a very enjoyable picnic tournament was held on the Whakatane Bowling Club’s greens oh Sunday, players attending from Ohope, Taneatua, Te Puke and Whakatane. Teams with the greatest number of wins were those skipped by A. C. King, Whakatane, and H. Torrie, Taneatua (4 wins each). The final resulted in a win for King’s team 6—2. Results of Saturday’s games:— Smith Stars: Sims, J. W. Wilson, Drube, Dixon (s) (challengers) 19 Atkinson, Stewart, Carling, Spong (s) (holders) 15. Club games: R. F. Smith, Pezet, Caisley (s) 24 Campbell, Head, A. C. King (s) 23; J. Bell, J. Thompson, McCarthy (s) 16 C. Butler, Latta, Burgess (s) 20; Graham, Drayson, Hellyar, Sloane (s) 19 Christensen, Dawson, Shapley, Good (s) 22; Richardson, Back, Murphy, Coates (s) 16 Sumner, McDonald, Compton, Grant (s) 20. Closing day at the Whakatane Club will be on May 21.
