GIFT EVENING HELD FOR MISS H. WOOLFIELD

In honour of Miss Helen Woolfield, Waimana, who is being married to Mr T. Mexted, a pleasant gift evening was held recently in the Waimana Hall by local residents. Miss Woolfield was presented with several useful gifts from many different people through Mr N. Eagle. They were acknowledged by Mr Mexted.

Mr Eagle also presented Mr D. Woolfield with a small gift from the Waimana Tennis Club in honour of his approaching marriage at Dunedin. DRAMA & GLEE CLUB MEET Plays for the Drama Festival and casts were selected at the April meeting of the Waimana Drama and Glee Club presided . over by Mrs G. Stansbury. Items were given by Mrs C. Hampton (songs), Mrs S. Eagle (elocution). GARDENING CIRCLE Bulb culture and preserving dahlia blooms were subjects of talks by Mrs Hewitt at the Waimana-Nuku-hou Women’s Institute’s monthly meeting presided over by Mrs M. King. Another talk on drying delphinium blooms so they will retain their colour during the winter was given by Mrs Graham. Competition judges were Mesdames Graham, J. Wardlaw and Wylde. Results:— Spelling flower names: Mrs Wylde 7, Mrs King 2; best flower, Mrs Piewitt 1, Mrs King 2, Mrs Whitman 3; best vegetable, Mrs Hewitt 1, Mrs Whiteman 2, Mrs S. Eagle 3; modern decoration, Mrs Hewitt 1, Mrs Whiteman 2.
