PETROL DEPOTS TO BE ESTABLISHED NEAR WHAKATANE

Although present petrol supplies are transported to Whakatane by sea it is probable that future supplies will be brought to the Eastern Bay of Plenty by rail and kept .in bulk storage tanks at the rail terminus at Taneatua and also at Awakeri.

Preparations have been in train some .time to establish depots at Taneatua.

Permission has been granted one oil company by the Whakatane County Council for a bulk oil depot at Awakeri, including two staff houses.

Details are not available at present as to when the first depots will be completed.
