Annual Report To Whakatane Centre Of Red Cross Society
“The end of the financial yea\ finds us with all sub-centres still in existence, and financial, though smaller in members,” said the president in her annual report to the Red Cross Centre’s annual meeting at Whakatane. “Main achievement has been the establishment of a Red Cross Diversional Therapy Department at the Whakatane Hospital. This has been well supported by the Hospital Board, which allowed Miss Gay Sutcliffe, a member of their office staff, to use her afternoons for this work. The service has been maintained by assistance from sub-cen-tres, and sales of materials and completed work to patients and the public, and there is a sum in hand towards next year’s work. Miss Sutcliffe is doing an excellent job, and Miss Cullen spoke very highly of her in her report to the New Zealand Red Cross Headquarters. • “Three 22 lb parcels, 13 cases of food and sundries and 12 cases of clothing have been despatched during- the year and letters of thanks have been received. “Donations have been made to International Red Cross from Whakatane branch, to relief for European children from the Whakatane D.H S. to J.R.C. Headquarters from the Whakatane Convent J.R.C., the Leper Appeal from Edgecumbe, the Food for Britain Fund, and a family suffering from loss through fire from the Te Teko and Otakiri branches.
“This year the Centre held a combined street appeal and the sum pf over £146 was raised for Centre expenses, H.Q. Levy and I.R.C.
