RAN GIT AIKI REFEREES MEET The annual general meeting of ' the Rangitaiki Rugby Referees’ Association was held recently. The pre- ; sident, Mr T. Anderson, in reading his report, thanked the secretary,*" Mr L. Perkins, for his work and time put into the Association and expressed regret*- that' Mr Perkins was not offering his services for the coming season.
Officers elected: Patron, Mr T. H. Anderson; president, Mr J. Hyland; secretary; Mr A. Magee; vice-presi-dents, Messrs J. Thomas, L. H. Anderson and F. Burt; appointment committee, Messrs Lord, C. E. Thompson and Parkinson; delegates to Bay of Plenty Referees’ Association, Messrs J. Hyland and L. H. Anderson; delegate to the Rangitaiki Rugby Union, Mr A. Magee; executive committee, Messrs J. Hyland, A. Magee and 6. Lord.
TANEATUA BEATS OPOTIKI Taneatua seniors defeated Opotiki City Club at Taneatua ' by 14 points to nil. Tries wee scored by B. MeGougan, Hurran and L. McCready, a conversion by Bill McCready and a drop kick by Welch. Taneatua juniors were ' defeated by Opotiki City Club by 13—5. A brilliant try was scored by Barry Chalmers who also converted.
TEAMS FOR SATURDAY United juniors to play Paroa at the Domain at 1.30 pun. on Saturday will be selected from the following: Shapley, Comiskey, Burt, A. 1 Taylor, J. Taylor, B. Taylor, Butler, Sandham, Goodall, Coker, Carlsen, Brown, Seeback, Kain, Littlejohn, Chadwick, W. Goodwin, C. Goodwin, Edmondson. . All players assemble at the dressing shed at lp.m. sharp. UNITED FOOTBALL CLUB Though several of the better ? known players will not be turning out for United again this season, the new senior coach, Mr R. Julian, has high hopes of building a good team around a nucleus of fast young players. ■ - -
At the practice last week it was seen that the strength of the club still lies on the side of youth, and this augurs well for its future. Training is being carried on on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the Domain after work, and Tuesday evenings at the shed.
