Suffolk-born John Mills, who had plenty of cycling experiences before he became an actor, has to pretend he can’t ride a bicycle in his new film, “The History of Mr Polly.” The bicycle represents his means of escape f~om the cares of everyday life. His first attempts at riding it provides one of the most amusing sequences in this study of a man who wants to get away from his humdrum existence.
