Eighth Birthday Celebrated By The Galatea W.I.
Galatea Women’s Institute celebrated their eighth birthday last Saturday with a very entertaining and enjoyable afternoon in the school and surrounding grounds. The afternoon, which was in the form of a Garden Party, was very well attended both by members and visitors and Galatea was particularly pleased with the attendance of a large number of visitors from Murupara.and Kaingaroa. Mrs Nicholls, president of the Galatea W. 1., opened the afternoon with a welcome to the visitors, after which the business side of the meeting was briefly dealt with and the remainder of the i afternoon turned over to entertainment. The Bring and Buy stall was well patronised as usual.
The afternoon’s entertainment consisted of a series of intriguing and sometimes provoking games, rang*ing from Pinning on the Pig’s Tail to Chinese Chequers.
The second half of the afternoon began with the presentation of flowers by Mrs Taylor, retiring president. Mrs Nicholls, the new president, was the recipient of a very sweet mauve bouquet whilst Mrs Neilson, the retiring secretary, received a similar gold one. Mrs Hill, president of the Murupara Women’s Division, and Mrs Cornwall, president of the Kaingaroa Women’s Institute, were each presented with shoulder sprays. Mrs Taylor also expressed an appreciation of the long standing membership and very willing and wonderful, work done by two Galatea members, Mrs Cawte and Mrs Yager. Mrs Nicholls then gave Mrs Taylor a pink bouquet and with a few words on behalf of the Institute presented her with a china dish and then handed a cup, saucer and plate to Mrs Neilson.
