Recently Federal.gaol authorities rejected a suggestion by San Fransicso business magnates that the prison be turned into a public tourist resort.
According to a Chamber of Commerce poll, Alcatraz is the city’s, greatest tourist attraction after theGolden Gate Bridge, favourite spot for suicides.
Escape-proof Alcatraz, originally the Island of Pelicans, will continue as a resort for 250 desperate criminals, who see no newspapers, hear no radio, only get an occasional look at the view. . : V ' .
