RECORD ENTRIES EXPECTED FOR WINTER SHOW

Arrangements are now well under way with the organisation of the show for this year, it was reported at a meeting of the executive of the Whakatane Winter Show Association on Tuesday night. Indications are, at present, that the show will be one of the most successful yet held in the town, judging by the inquiries that have come in from all over the country. The chairman, Mr. H. G. Warren, said that nearly every square foot of Ihe 9000 feet in the hall would be taken up and he suggested that some arrangements should be made to deal with the record entries that have so far been received.

In preparation for the show the Association has made arrangements for all sanitary. accommodation to be improved and repairs to the buildings are also to be carried out. Because of the power position the Association was, at one stage, in danger of not being able to hold a show. However, this difficulty was overcome by purchasing a diesel driven power plant in England. It is now in transit and is expected to be landed sometime this month. This plant will now ensure that the winter show building will always have electricity, irrespective of when the power may be cut off. Mr Warren made an appeal for the wholehearted support of the farming and business communities as the show would be of considerable benefit to everybody in the district, and would focus attentmn on one of the richest dairying areas of the Dominion.
