HORSE SHOE STEEL FOR TANEATUA IS EXPECTED SOON
“It is appreciated that the supply of shoeing steel and ready-made horse shoes is insufficient to meet all demands of blacksmiths and dairyfarmers and this, you will no doubt realise, is merely the local reflection on the world-wide shortage of steel.”
This statement is made in a letter received by Mr E. J. Vosper, Secretary of Bay of Plenty Province of Federated Farmers of New Zealand, following representations to the head office of the Federation on behalf of the Opouriao Dairy Factory, Taneatua. With the current shortage of horse shoes the factory is in serious danger of losing a large number of suppliers, both Maori and Pakeha, who transport their milk to the factory by horse-drawn vehicles. It is pointed out that the serious nature of the position regarding the factory is fully appreciated and the letter offers an assurance that everypossible source of supply is being fully investigated. A quantity of shoeing steel is expected to arrive shortly the letter continues, and assistance is being given to importers to obtain " from the United Kingdom a small quantity of ready-made shoes which it is hoped will help to alleviate the existing shortage.
