After defeating Homewood, Katikati, by nine matches to seven at Whakatane on Sunday in the semifinal for the Watt Cup, the Whakatane Tennis Club is now to meet Rotorua in the final at Rotorua on Saturday, Details, Whakatane names first:—

WAIMANA WINS DAVIS MEMORIAL CUP In a very even challenge match for the Davis Memorial Cup at Ruatoki during the week-end the Tanatana Tennis Club, Waimana, defeated the holders, Tuhoe. The final result was a draw, each team winning 12 games, but on the count back of the sets Tanatana had won 30 to Tuhoe’s 26 and were therefore successful with their challenge. Results: —

WAIMANA C TEAM WINS PRITCHARD CUP

The final match for the Pritchard Cup was played during the weekend on the Waimana courts. The Waimana Club winning the Eastern Bay Zone and St. Michael’s the Western Zone. The St. Micheals team came from Rotorua for the match. Waimana won by 16 matches to 3. At the conclusion of the match, Mr O’Grady on behalf of Mr Prichard, who was ill, congratulated Waimana on their great win and asked their captain, Mr N. Eagle, to come forward and accept the cup. Mr O’Grady also thanked Waimana for tneir most generous hospitality. Mr Eagle suitably replied and said that having a C Grade trophy to compete for, had improved the standard of play and added interest in the game of tennis amongst smaller clubs.
