LIVELY INTEREST IN HUNT CLUB ACTIVITIES
The annual general meeting of the Rangitaiki Ward of the Opotiki Hunt Club was held on Monday night in the Awakeri hall. A large, number of enthusiastic members showed a lively interest and a desire to further hunting in the district.
In his report the Ward Master, Mr G. D. Fogerty, said the fields had increased and with the recent formation of a Pony Club in the district, he expected that more juniors, in the future, would be encouraged to take part in the hunts. He said the financial position of the club had improved, and all the social activities had been successful. Grateful thanks to the farmers over whose properties the hunt had run concluded Mr Fogerty’s report.
A minute’s silence was observed by the meeting as a mark of respect to the late Sonny Williams and R. S. Heckling. In the coming season the Opotiki Club has allotted eight Saturday hunts, the first to be held on May 7, and as many Wednesday hunts as required. The meeting agreed that nine committee members be elected for a period of three years with the provision that four members retire by ballot each year, but remain eligible for re-election at the Annual General Meeting. The following were elected:— Messrs Baird, Bennell, Goldsmith, Haslam, Hill, Park, Sisam, Smith, 'and Father-' Curly. The retention of the position of Ward Master by Mr Fogerty was warmly acclaimed. Mr R. Sharp was re-elected secretary.
