Whakatane P. & T. Officer In Serious Motor Smash

An employee of the Whakatane Post Office, Mr Reginald John Leach, Ohope, was involved in a serious accident in the Mamaku Hills, near Rotorua, on Friday night and was later admitted to the Rotorua hospital suffering from a compound , fracture to the skull and an injury to the right hand. His condition at 7 a.m. today was critical and he had not yet regained consciousness at that time.

Mr Leach, who was in the money order section, comes from Mananui, Taumarunui, and had only been at Whakatane for about a : r ortnight. He had left Whakatane 5 p.m. Friday night to visit Hamilton. it is believed that the car in which he was travelling was hit by a truck.
