Thornton W.I. Holds Annual Meeting
The annual meeting of the Thornton Women’s Institute was held this month, Mrs Ducker presiding. Officers elected: .President, Mrs D. Branch; vice-presidents, Mesdames Sheat and Gardner; secretary, Mrs Tooke; treasurer, Mrs Checkley; publicity officer, Mrs C. Smith; committee, Mesdames D. Branch, Gardner, Sheat, Tooke, Checkley, McDonald, Heikle, Lennon, C. Smith, McQueen, Patton. Mrs Ducker, the retiring president, thanked all members for their cooperation during her term of office.
Mrs Lennon on behalf of members presented Mrs Ducker with a bouquet df flowers and expressed regret of her departure from Thornton.
The delegates appointed to attend the annual council meeting at Opotiki are Mesdames McQueen and Lennon. A donation of £5 was made to the Thornton Hall Building Fund. Mrs Withy and Mrs Caverhill, V.O.’s, were thanked for coming along to the annual meeting and giving advice.
Competition results: — Best flower, Mrs Robb 1, Mrs .L. Smith 2; best vegetable, Mrs D. Branch 1, Mrs Sheet 2: apnle short cake, Mrs Robb 1, D. Branch 2; basket of flowers, Mrs L. Smith 1. D. Branch 2. Mrs Law 3; best vegetable, Mrs Sheat 1, Mrs D. Branch 2, Mrs Law 3. Hostesses for the meeting were Mesdames McDonald, Arbuckle and Dudson.
