Killing Policies Held Ineffective Against Rabbits
Ravages of the rabbit pest have not been abated by the killing policies adopted by rabbit boards, according to Mr J. R. Byrne, a member of the Hawke’s Bay Catchment Board.
He told a meeting of the board that he had meen informed by the chairman of the Central Hawke’s Bay Rabbit Board that the position had deteriorated there despite the killing policy being in operation. Mr F. N. H. Beamish and other members also agreed that killing policies were disappointingly ineffective.
The board decided to ask the chairman of the Hawke’s Bay and Northern Hawke’s Bay rabbit boards for comments on the result of killing policies in their districts. Information on how this method of dealing with the menace works out will be placed before the Catchment Boards’ Association next month.
