Otakiri Red Cross Annual Meeting

At the annual meeting of the Otakiri Red Cross Sub-Centre Mrs Jessup, the retiring president, commented favourably on the year’s work, particularly mentioning the sewing convener, Mrs Cobden, for the high standard in her department.

Reports showed that the third Wednesday in each month had been Red Cross day except during the summer months when the branch went into recess. The meetings had mostly been sewing days, starting at 11 a.m. and finishing up early in the afternoon with a short business meeting. In June a successful social afternoon was held to raise funds, there being a varied programme of items, competitions etc. and a bring and buy stall. The last meeting of 1948 was held at Mrs Jessup’s home and the finished sewing on hand was put out for display. The branch has paid its Centre quota and its share towards paying the Diversional Therapist and also has donated £5 to the Otakiri collection for the Busby Fire Relief Fund.

Mrs W. A. Hutton was elected president for the ensuing year and it was decided to ask Miss S. Mayo to act as secretary. The April meeting is.to be held on the fourth Wednesday of the month, after that, reverting to the third Wednesday.
