WHAKATANE HIGH SCHOOL TO HAVE HOME LIFE BLOCK
An addition to the Whakatane District High School that was promised over three years ago but has since been delayed by building control, is now to be proceeded with in the form
of a new home life block. Tenders are at present being called and as soon as they have been accepted work on the building will commence.
Expected to take about two years to complete, the new building will consist of two sewing rooms, and a fully equipped kitchen and dry. These will prove a valuable acquisition to the present facilities of the school, and facilitate the teaching of useful home-making skills to the girls. While no architectural details are available, it. is known that it will be a modern structure with the latest amenities for teaching and providing a fine, healthy class room.
The present cooking building is an old prefabricated affair that has long since passed its prime. It was erected section by section some years ago but has always been out of tone with the other school buildings.
