HOME SERVICES ASSOCIATION ON THE JOB AGAIN

When first established in this district, the local branch of the Home Servicemen’s Association had a financial membership of close on 100, and looked like becoming a real force in the community. Lately, little has been heard of it, but there is now a move afoot to reorganise its activities.

On Wednesday evening a small group of enthusiasts met and sorrowed over the fine thing that was, and its present sickly state. Then they decided that to let the Association languish away into the realms of sad memory was rather a poor show for their ex-comrades who might need and appreciate its assistance, so it was agreed to try to arouse local home servicemen to a lively awareness of the useful purposes their Association could serve. The Rehab. Queue One thing pointed out to the meeting was that, since the branch president left Whakatane, his place had not been filled on the executive, nor had anyone been nominated to take the Association’s seat on the Rehabilitation Committee. In view of the fact that the rehab, queue is steadily shuffling along to the point where home servicemen are likely to be in line for privileges that have been promised after the ex-overseas demands have been met, it was felt that a live member of the Rehabilitation committee, backed by an active Association, was more of a necessity than ever. Realising that a few keen men could not do a great deal without mass support, it was decided to make an all-out effort 1 to get a large attendance of v members, and those eligible for membership, at a general meeting, probably towards the middle of next month.

Then it is intended to plan a definite programme of activity and elect a strong executive to carry out the plans.
