Miss Joan Young, 8.A., has been appointed a lecturer in the Department of Education of the International Wool Secretariat, London. Miss Young, whose* degree included Education, graduated at the University of New Zealand, where she visited many sheep farms and was able to study sheep raising and wool growing at first hand. Mr D. G. McCallum, manager of the Whakatane branch of the Union Bank was guest of honour last evening at a pleasant social gathering organised by the executive of the Chamber of Commerce to mark his pending departure on transfer to manage the Palmerston North branch. Mr McCailum was complimented on his advancement as well as on his work here, where he has enjoyed a high degree of personal popularity. .
