Edgecumbe School’s Annual Picnic

The annual picnic of't&eT Edge- | cumbe school was held on Satur- ’ ■ day. Parents’ cars collected the children at the school before 9.30 a.m. to take them to Thornton Beach, and the formal races were run off in time for all to have a dip before full tide at 11.30. In the heat fifteen gallons of ice cream, disappeared in record time. There were-; age and walking races for the children and sack races, “dog and races” obstacle and wheelbarrow races to provide comedy relief. The juniors had a sand castle competition while the seniors had a swim to build up an appetite for lunch, which was served at noon. Sandwiches and cakes were around, and soft drinks followed. Later the senior sand castle competition and swimming races were held, and cleaning up was reward- , ed by handful of sweets for the best garbage collectors. '

At 1.30 some of the children went to see a matinee, “Snow W.hite and the Seven Dwarfs,” while others stayed to have more swims and races with some of the teachers and parents.' Tired, sunburned but happy, all were on their way home by 4 p.m. after a grand day for which the staff, school committee and all who contributed so generously were warmly thanked. (Report contributed by Form 11. Edgecumbe School),
