Win For Taneatua Over P. & T. A sharper bowling attack gave Taneatua a good win over P. and by 82 rups in an inter-club cricket match at Whakatane on Sunday. Batting first Taneatua made 197 (McCready 134 not out, Green 30; Shapley 6 for 72, Whiteside, 2 for 12). P. and T. followed and could only raise 115 (Cleland 38, Shapley 20; McCready 3 for 18, Green 3 for 22). • • • Te Teko Defeats Waiohou Te Teko defeated Waiohou by six wickets in a cricket match at Te Teko on Sunday. Batting first Waiohou made 53 (Patterson 3 for 9j Re veil 2 for 3) and 32 (Patterson 5 for 16). Te Teko passed both scores making in the first innings 57 (Carson 3 for 7, Campbell 3 for 11) and 4 for 3. r ~ '
Edgecumbe Hockey Club The attendance at- the general meeting of the Edgecumbe HockeyClub augered well for another successful season of hockey in the district. Edgecumbe will again field •the Rovers, Rangers and Riverslea men’s teams which became so welL. known last year, and the Rovers and Rangers girls teams. ' In the election of officers Mr G. Colebrook was re-elected Patron, and Mr "O. V. Marx president; vicepresidents, Messrs J. Huish and J.. Weir; secretary, Mr A. B. Hill. The retiring secretary, Mr K„ v Civil, was heartily 'thanked for his ' untiring efforts on behalf ,of the club and hockey in general during his term of three years as secretary of the club. It was mentioned that more umpires were urgently needed if hoc- j key was to be run as efficiently and successfully as it had been in the past.
