WAIMANA INSTITUTE SHOW

LARGE ENTRIES FEATURE AN EXCELLENT DISPLAY OF FLOWERS

The Waimana-Nukuhou Women’s Institute held a most successful \ show last Monday in the hall. The entries were not far short of 900, and were all of a high standard. The display of flowers was excellent.

Mr W. Sullivan, M.P., and Mrs Sdliivan were present during the evening. Mrs Hewitt, President of the Show, welcomed them, after ■asking all present to stand in two minutes’ silence as a mark of sympathy to Mrs John Addison, whose husband died recently, and to all her relations. Mrs Hewitt thanked all who had helped towards making the show such a success. Mr Sullivan then spoke and congratulated the Women’s Institute ■on the show. He then told of his recent travels abroad, briefly mentioning that Britain was still very short of food, but the outlook. was brighter. Mr "Sullivan said that food parcels forwarded to the Old Country totalled '3-1- million pounds weight so far, which was very good indeed. Mr Sullivan then; presented the trophies won at the show. The “Tuhoe” Cup for most points In the show was won by Mrs Wylde, with 107 points, Mrs Hewitt runnerup 67 points, and trophy donated by Mrs R. Looney and Mrs I. Savage. Mrs Stevenson was third with 62 points. The Primary School Cup, donated by Mr N. Eagle, was won by Annette Henderson, and Richard Henderson was runner-up. A Secondary School Shield donated by Mr C.
