MORE BOXING THIS SEASON?
Tuesday night’s general meeting of the Whakatane District Boxing. Association gave some time to discussing the possibilities for the coming season, but could of course 1 reach no finality until after the circuit committee’s meeting and until, some indication is available as to how many competitors will be offering. •
Mr A. L. Hogg, president of the Association, said he hoped to see more tournaments this year, and he would like to see one in each of the Taneatua, Edgecumbe and Te Teko districts, though reports from those districts were not so encouraging as they might have been. ■ It is probable the first tournament , will be .held some time in May at Whakatane, and Mr S. Whitworth’s suggestion that; a distinct novice tournament be held was deferred for favourable consideration later.
Mr R. Watson, of Minginui, wrote asking the Association if it could, help with equipment to start a boxing school amongst forestry .workers there, and the secretary was instructed to investigate the circumstances with power to act. The feeling of the meeting was that the Association should make gloves, at least, available to any group of enthusiasts who v/anted to train. A circular from the Beacon asking for co-operation with boxing publicity was received with enthus- , iasm. and the meeting decided to appoint a publicity officer at the annual meeting in April.
