Street Set One Of Largest Ever Built

One of the largest and most complete sets ever built on a movie studio sound stage was constructed at Universal-International for “Letter From An Unknown Woman,” co-starring Joan Fontaine and Louis Jourdan. The set, representing a Vienna street of the 1890 period, completely filled one of the studio’s largest stages. The street was built on a grade so as to give perspective to roof tops in the background and was lined on both sides with buildings. Some of these buildings had completely finished first and second storey interiors to permit filming interior sequences with the outside street activity in the background.
