Red Cross Appeal Raised Over £l4O
Over £l4O was raised by the Red Cross street appeal and stall, held last Friday by the Eastern Bay of Plenty Centre. All sub-centres joined in this effort in .an attempt to raise enough to cover all liabilities for the year, but did not quite reach that goal. The Red Cross general purposes fund covers all administrative costs, mainly Red Cross Headquarters, as practically all centres have voluntary officers, and their expenses are confined to stationery, stamps, advertising, telephone, freight of cases and so on. The New Zealand Red Cross’s share towards financing the International Red Cross Committee and League of Red Cross Societies is £ISOO per annum; and the New Zealand Society also has an emergency Disaster Relief Fund on which to draw for immediate relief needs, such as the Wairarapa floods within New Zealand and the urgent appeal for funds for relief medical supplies in the Middle East recently received from the British Red Cross Commission there.
The generous support of the public and business community is very much appreciated by the local Centre.
