Rationing Of Petrol The contention that less petrol would be consumed if rationing were abolished was advanced by several council members Qf the North Island Motor Union. The council decided .to join with the South Island union in urging the Government to abolish petrol rationing. Meat Schedules The New Zealand Meat Producers Board announces that minimum schedule prices ruling as from 24/1/49 for the highest grade of wether mutton are: North Island, 7f-d per lb; South Island, 7id. Schedule prices for other classes of stock remain unchanged. MJP.’s Fan Letters “The broadcasting, of Parliament has come to stay,” said Mr .H. E. Combs, M.P., at a dinner given by the New Zealand Company of Master Mariners of the Dominion Monarch. “The fan letters we get from all parts of the country indicate that The people of New Zealand listen in to their Parliament.” Blanket Supplies The Customs Department announces that provision will be made for the importation of a limited quantity of blankets to cover the shortage in local production. Applications from regular importers for licences to import such goods from the United Kingdom or Australia will be considered if supported by evidence that 'specific quantities are available for immediate shipment to this country. Applications already lodged will * be considered when licences are being allocated. •
