X X X Just back from the Municipal Conference at Napier, the Mayor of Whakatane, Mr B. S. Barry, called at the Beacon Office yesterday to pass on a compliment from an Auckland delegate, who had seen and been impressed by our paper. We appreciate Auckland’s appreciation. XXX Mr Barry also pointed out that the message we got from Napier concerning his appointment to the executive was not quite correct. Though on the executive he is not a vice-president. We regret it if civic pride led us to believe he could be no less. XXX Of fifteen Large White piglets recently born to a supposedly respectably married sow at Waimana, one was black and four were “magpies.” .Said Mr Large White of Waimana, [ “Excuse my intolerant manner, ; But I cannot see How a true wife she be—- ! Perhaps I’ll be right if I tan ’er.’”
