WORKING BEE AT HEADS

Sir, —The Whakatane Beautifying Society held a highly successful working bee on Satrday, February 12, when approximately 25 helpers turned out. With the help of a winch and the Fire Brigade truck all the logs were stacked, the beach thoroughly raked and several good fires were lit. Now that the beach Las been cleaned up, the Society would like to see picnickers and the public generally more careful with rubbish and not leave papers etc. scattered here, there and everywhere. The Society was quite pleased with the number that turned up to help, but thinks that number could be considerably increased, considering the population of the town. A little more community spirit would be a great help. The Society also wishes to convey its special thanks to the Whakatane Fire Brigade and the Legion of Frontiersmen for sending helpers, Armstrong and Co. Ltd. for the loan of their breakdown van and the women residents at the Heads who provided an excellent morning tea. Yours etc., G. W. KEMP, Hon. Sec.
