Marching Judges Little difficulty was experienced at the show on Saturday in finding judges for the girls’ maching. However, the final judging was strictly carried out and the competition proved to be very closely contested. Taneatua Footpaths It is doubtful if work on foot--paths at Taneatua will be commenced at the present time, it was, said at the monthly meeting of the Whakatane County Council yesterday. A shortage of cement is said to be the main reason for the delay in the work. Uniform Traffic Signs The principle of having uniform traffic signs throughout New Zealand was adopted by the Municipal Association conference at Napier. Advocating its adoption, the president, Mr W. Appleton, said that it would not tie anyone to any specific type of signs, but would enable legislation standardising them to come forward for consideration. Wasp Nest At Domain A large wasp nest was found in the Domain at Whakatane last week’. It is one of the biggest yet discovered in the Bay of Plenty and it is regarded as a clear sign how far wasps have progressed in establishing themselves in the district. The nest was prominently displayed at the show on Saturday and attracted a large number of curious onlookers. Maori Electoral Roll The Maoris of the ■ district are now registering for the compilation of the Maori Roll for the next general election. At Whakatane Maoris can register at the Department of Maori Affairs. Arrangements for the outlying districts -may be made through the Tribal Executive, Maori Schools and Post Office. Enrolling at Whakatane has so far been very good and officers of the Maori Department yesterday expressed satisfaction with the response.
