War’s Main Sufferers Lead Fight For Peace

“The real fight for peace is being waged by those who suffered the heaviest losses in the war,” said Dr. Julius Suchy, who was a Polish UN delegate.

“Poland suffered ruin in the war,” he said. “We lost 22 per cent of our population, 65 per cent of our trade and industry, 35 per cent of agriculture, 50 per cent of communications, 60 per cent of schools. “For us, war means bloodshed and sufferings, not dividends and profits.” Dr. Suchy wanted to know how British and American delegates could explain the rebirth of German war potential and >the transformation of Western Germany into a bridgehead of expansion. How could they explain the return of the Ruhr—the arsenal of Germany—to German hands? Why did they stop dismantling German arms plants, thus violating the Potsdam' Agreement? How could they explain the introduction of former Nazis into the administration, and the sponsoring of hostile propaganda against Poland, the Soviet Union and other Nazi victims, not excluding them ally-—France?
